Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. (NKJV)
Many today are very interested in this subject. The subject of 666 and the mark of the beast. I am moving away a bit from the traditional teaching on this and moving into a biblical model and explanation of this weighty subject. It is found in Romans chapter 8.
Romans 8:1,2 8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
First, let me make clear that the Biblical number of a man spoken of in Revelation 13:18 is the number six (6). God created man on the 6th day of creation. The number 666 is the number for Satan and the beast spoken of in Revelation 13. Why 666? Why three numbers in a row? Three (3) numbers in a row indicate something which is complete. Three is the Biblical number for complete testimony or completeness. So 666 is the complete rule of Satan and the beast (antichrist spirit) over man. The issue is that the first man Adam through sin gave man's authority to Satan in the garden. So when Revelation 13 speaks of the beast it speaks of one who has complete authority over unredeemed man.
Man (and woman) is a three part being. Spirit, Soul, and Body. (NOTE: The soul is made up of the mind, will, and emotions.) The Apostle Paul is attempting to show us in Romans 8 what a Spirit led person looks like. So if a person is led by the flesh that person is led by his or her SOUL and BODY. The soul and body represents two thirds 2/3 or 666 or in other words completely led by the flesh. That is referring to one who is not Born Again and whose spirit man is dead and separated from God. Adam's sin in the garden led to the death of man's spirit. (see Salvation page)
But now let's look at the person who is Born Again by the Spirit of God!
Ephesians 2: 1-2 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.
So if one is Born Again and has a resurrected spirit man then what is his number? Yes, it is 999 as he or she is filled with Holy Spirit. 9 is the Bibical number for completeness, finality, and fullness! Interestingly, Jesus died in the 9th hour, thus securing our salvation! (Matthew 27:45) Why three nines? There are 9 manifestations of the Fruit of the Spirit and 9 Gifts of the Spirit. It takes 9 months for a child to be born. 999 or 3/3rd being, COMPLETE! Why do I add 9 months to be born? It is something Jesus said in John chapter 3.
Jesus said in John chapter 3:3 "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.
A Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus asked,
4 "How can someone be born when they are old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother's womb to be born!"
5 Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water AND the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
Jesus was telling Nicodemus, a person must be "born of water", referring to natural child birth which takes 9 months! Then a person must be BORN AGAIN by the Spirit of God! Flesh gives birth to flesh. Spirit (Holy Spirit) gives birth to spirit (man's spirit). Remember that because of Adam & Eve's sin in the garden mankind's spirit died. Once the spirit man is re-born it joins the already existing Soul (mind, will, emotions), and body. Now the master must become Holy Spirit living within your spirit!
Why is natural birth important enough for Jesus to include it as necessary part of entering the kingdom of God? Each body of a born again believer becomes the temple of Holy Spirit! Natrual birth coupled with spiritual re-birth results in wholenss, completeness! UNLESS ONE IS BORN OF WATER AND THE SPIRIT!
1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
As the spirit man yields totally to Holy Spirit living within, we become Spirit led, not flesh led. There is no mystery in 666. It simply is the number of one who completely fulfills the lust of the flesh and is ruled by sinful desire obeying the enemy or the beast! That person is a 666 or 2/3 being, one who is controlled by his or her mind and bodily desires. That person has no hope without being BORN AGAIN!
Romans 8:7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.
So how does our spirit man gain rulership over our flesh?
Psalm 119:32 I will run the way of thy commandments (obedience), when thou shalt enlarge my heart.
In the Hebrew text the word heart refers to the inner or spirit man. The Hebrew word for enlarge is rachab (rä·khav' ) which literally means to be or grow wide, be or grow large. A broad or roomy pasture. My favorite part of the orignal Hebrew definition for ENLARGE is this! "The borders or extent of a Kingdom!". SO AN ENLARGED HEART IN THE HEBREW MEANS A HEART THAT EXTENDS TO THE BORDERS AND EXTENT OF GOD'S KINGDOM!
AS THE HEART (SPIRIT MAN) ENLARGES IT RESULTS IN KINGDOM ALIGNMENT! THE SPIRIT MAN LITERALLY SUBDUES THE SOUL AND BODY AND TAKES CONTROL!
Our spirit man when controlled by Holy Spirit becomes larger and stronger than the impulses and thoughts of the soul and body, thus gaining control of us! Our spirit man or heart as we repent of old mindsets (see article Satan's Hiding Place) becomes larger than fleshly desires and takes control. As we are transformed by the renewing of our mind through God's word (See Romans 12) we become controlled by Holy Spirit! HIS KINGDOM IS ENLARGED WITHIN US THUS GAINING CONTROL AND COMMAND OVER THE FLESH!
Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 5:23
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify (set apart) you through and through (completely). May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (NIV)
In conclusion my dear brother or sister, surrender your heart completely to Jesus! Follow Holy Spirit and FEAR NOT! The God of peace Himself will separate you to Himself and take you into your destiny! He will sanctify you spirit, soul, and body and you will be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus!
